Program Overview

How many applicants will be accepted?
It is anticipated that approximately 35 applicants will be accepted to the program. There will also be a short waiting list.

How much does it cost to participate in Design Entrepreneurs NYC?
All program sessions and additional benefits will be offered free of charge to Design Entrepreneurs NYC participants.

Eligibility and Application

What if I can't make it to all of the sessions?
In order to be eligible for the program, you must be able to attend all program sessions.

Do I have to be a NYC resident to apply?
You do not have to be a NYC resident to apply. However, per the eligibility criteria, your business must be based in NYC and you must be able to attend all program sessions.

What are you looking for in an ideal candidate?
Based on our criteria, an ideal candidate runs an established, NYC-based fashion design business that has achieved traction in the industry, as demonstrated through press coverage and sales, and is committed to learning the business skills needed to run a fashion label.

Who should I be asking for a reference?
References must come from a person who is best suited to speak to your professional abilities, such as a manufacturer, factor, retailer, or professor.

I applied but I haven't heard back. What should I do?
Applicants will receive an e-mail confirming the receipt of their application shortly after submission. Additionally, all applicants will receive e-mail notification of the status of their applications by mid-April. If you do not receive either of these e-mails, please check your spam folder for e-mails from info@designentrepreneursnyc.com. Otherwise, please e-mail info@designentrepreneursnyc.com.

Program Details

To what experience level will the weekend intensives be targeted?
The program sessions are designed to appeal to a range of experience levels. The content will provide a strong foundation for designers less familiar with the day-to-day aspects of running their own businesses but will also be rigorous enough to appeal to those with more business experience.

Do I need to have any specialized knowledge for the program sessions?
Participants will not be expected to have any specialized knowledge for the program sessions.

What if I already have a business plan?
Though the weekend sessions are designed to give participants a ground up understanding of how to put together a business plan, the curriculum will be rigorous enough to appeal to designers at all stages of their business plan development. Additionally, the pitch workshop will offer participants an opportunity to improve their presentations in order to better engage prospective clients and investors.

What is the expected time commitment outside of the class sessions?
Participants are expected to devote as much time as needed to completing weekly assignments, refining business plans, and developing presentations. It is anticipated that between the weekend intensives, participants will be spending an average of five hours on program-related work.
