Loaner Laptop Program

Students may request a laptop for temporary use. Requests must be made through Faculty or through the Dean of Students (DOS) / Enrollment Management & Student Success (EMSS):

Step One

Request Through Faculty:
  1. Email a Faculty member with the reason for your request and how long you expect to need the device.
  2. The Faculty member will forward the email to their Department Chair for review.
  3. The Department Chair will then seek final approval from the Academic Dean.
  4. If approved, the student will receive the confirmation email, with a copy also sent to Academic Operations.

or Request Through EMSS/DOS:
  1. Email the Dean of Students (DOS) and/or the Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Services (EMSS) with the reason for your request and how long you expect to need the device. Please be aware that loans are short-term and only approved in cases of extenuating circumstances.
  2. If approved, the student will receive the confirmation email, with a copy also sent to Academic Operations.

Step Two

Submitting the Request:

Students must follow the appropriate steps listed above, then upload the approved email to the IT Self-Service Portal (Cherwell) as part of their ticket submission.

To Open a Ticket with IT Self-Service (Cherwell):

  1. Log into Cherwell with your FIT credentials
  2. Select 'Open a Ticket'
  3. Select ‘Hardware & Printing
  4. Select ‘Loaner Equipment’
  5. Select ‘Student Loaner Laptop Request’; complete all information regarding your loan request and upload the approved email as an attachment. IT will coordinate with you regarding when and how to pick up your loaner laptop.
