Mission Statement

EOP, a State University of New York (SUNY) admissions initiative established in 1967, offers postsecondary education access to New York State students who have the potential and commitment to succeed in college despite longstanding socioeconomic challenges. EOP at FIT works with students individually to help them achieve academic and personal success and degree completion. EOP develops and coordinates resources, services, experiences, and student opportunities that foster persistence, leadership, intellectual growth, and campus-community engagement. EOP has operated at FIT since 1973.

Eligibility

EOP participation is limited to individuals who have been New York State residents for at least 12 months before enrollment and who meet the academic and financial requirements established by the host college and the State.

A student's first semester of enrollment at the college must be on a full-time basis.

Transfer students are eligible for EOP at FIT if they participated in an EOP, HEOP, College Discovery, or SEEK program at their prior New York State college or university—or in a similar program at an out-of-state college or university. Students may be eligible for EOP even if their previous college did not have an opportunity program.

Income Guidelines

Students who want to be considered for participation in SUNY’s Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) must be reviewed for financial eligibility as part of the SUNY application process.

After you have completed the SUNY application, you will be directed to the EOP Financial Eligibility Review portal to complete the online screening. The table below lists EOP financial eligibility requirements for students entering in the 2024-25 academic year. Any subsequent changes to these guidelines will be posted here. To be determined economically disadvantaged, a student's household income must not exceed the amount shown for its size or the student's circumstances must conform to one of the exceptions indicated.

For families and households with more than 8 persons, add $9,509 for each additional person.

Income guidelines do not apply if:

• the student's family receives Family Assistance or Safety Net payments through the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance or through a county Department of Social Services, or Family Day Care payments through the New York State Office of Children and Family Assistance;
• the student is in foster care as established by the court;
• the student is a ward of the state or county.
