Note: Early applicants receive preference.
- Minimum GPA: 3.0
- Enrollment: Must be matriculated in a Bachelor's degree program
- Capacity: As an exchange program, it operates on a 1:1 ratio—meaning for every FIT student studying abroad, an international student studies at FIT. This limited capacity means spots can be competitive.
Additional Requirements by Major:
Fashion Business Management (FBM)
- Meet with an academic advisor and/or thoroughly review degree requirements in Degree Works
- Meet with an OIP program coordinator
- Obtain approval from the department’s international coordinator
- Students may take major-area, related-area, and liberal arts courses with the department’s approval of the course equivalent
- Eligible to participate in the 5th or 6th semester
Fashion Design
- Portfolio: Students must submit a portfolio to the department in the online application.
- Meet with an academic advisor and/or thoroughly review degree requirements in Degree Works
- Meet with an OIP program coordinator
- Obtain approval from the department chair or international coordinator
- Students will take a full course load of approved major area and related area courses that align with their semester of study and have been approved by their department. Liberal arts courses may be added with the department’s approval of the course equivalent.
- Sportswear students are eligible to participate in the 6th semester
Production Management
- Meet with an academic advisor and/or thoroughly review degree requirements in Degree Works
- Meet with an OIP program coordinator
- Obtain approval from the department’s international coordinator
- Eligible to participate in the 6th semester
A full-time course load at HKPU is at least 12 credit hours and students must take a minimum of half of their courses (at least 6 credits) in the School of Fashion and Textiles (SFT) listed under the Subject List linked below. Students may take the remainder of their course within any other HKPU school/department.

Students are generally expected to arrive the weekend before orientation begins.
Students are accommodated in shared rooms at HKPU's Student Residential Hall, a few minutes walking distance from the campus. Students accepted to study at HKPU will be able to apply online for their accommodation.
Students will be required to apply for a Study Visa for the duration of their stay in Hong Kong. Students are encouraged to carefully review the Visa Application Procedure (.pdf) (beginning on page 2) and the Study Visa Requirements. Supporting documentation will be provided after approval.
FIT requires all students to be covered in the U.S. and internationally for the duration of their study abroad program. Students are automatically enrolled in the UHC Study Abroad Insurance, which is included in HKPU program budget sheet (google doc). This policy is SUNY-mandated, therefore, it cannot be waived.
The UHC Study Abroad Insurance is ACA compliant and students may waive the FIT Haylor Student Health Insurance using the Study Abroad policy.
