RMIT Vietnam is the Vietnamese branch of the RMIT University in Australia. RMIT Vietnam is notable for being the first fully foreign-owned university permitted to operate in Vietnam and has received 19 Golden Dragon Awards from the Vietnamese Government for excellence in education since its inception. FIT students study in vibrant Ho Chi Minh City at the Saigon South campus in District 7, known for its modern architecture, wide streets, and vibrant nightlife.

Fall Semester: Applications reviewed and approved on a rolling basis through February 15

Spring Semester: Applications reviewed and approved on a rolling basis through September 15

Note: Early applicants receive preference.

  • Minimum GPA: 3.0
  • Enrollment: Must be matriculated in a Bachelor's degree program
  • Capacity: As an exchange program, it operates on a 1:1 ratio—meaning for every FIT student studying abroad, an international student studies at FIT. This limited capacity means spots can be competitive.

Additional Requirements by Major:

Fashion Business Management (FBM)

  • Meet with an academic advisor and/or thoroughly review degree requirements in Degree Works
  • Meet with an OIP program coordinator
  • Obtain approval from the department’s international coordinator
  • FBM students fulfill bachelor’s level major area courses by taking courses from the Bachelor of Fashion (Enterprise) program. 
  • Eligible to participate in the 5th or 6th semester

International Trade and Marketing (ITM)

  • Meet with an academic advisor
  • Contact Christine Pomeranz, department chair, before applying to discuss program options. All courses must be discussed in advance with the ITM department chair prior to submitting a course plan to the OIP or the Dean of
  • Liberal Arts approve the course equivalents.
  • Meet with an OIP program coordinator
  • Obtain approval from the department chair
  • ITM students may take one specific Major Area Elective from the Bachelor of Fashion (Enterprise) program and multiple liberal arts courses at RMIT. All courses must be discussed in advance with the ITM department chair prior to submitting a course plan to the OIP or the Dean of Liberal Arts approve the course equivalents.
  • Eligible to participate in the  6th or 7th semester

A full-time semester credit load consists of 48 (RMIT) credit points. Major and related area courses are available and students have the option of taking liberal arts or other courses in-person at RMIT (recommended) or online at FIT at no additional expense as this is an exchange program.

Liberal Arts Course Information:
Students may search potential liberal arts course options from among the other study areas at RMIT Vietnam like Professional Communication and Languages. Full course descriptions can be viewed by inputting the RMIT course number in this form.

RMIT Vietnam Semester 1 (FIT Spring Semester): late February - early June
RMIT Vietnam Semester 3 (FIT Fall Semester):  late October - mid January

Students are responsible for making their own accommodation arrangements for the duration of their stay. Students may apply to live in purpose-built campus accommodations or search for a privately-rented home with support from RMIT Connect.

RMIT Vietnam Housing 

Students will be required to apply for a Study Visa for the duration of their stay in Vietnam. RMIT will provide supporting documentation and instructions after admission.

Vietnam Study Visa

FIT requires all students to be covered in the U.S. and internationally for the duration of their study abroad program. Students are automatically enrolled in the UHC Study Abroad Insurance, which is included in RMIT Vietnam program budget sheet (google doc). This policy is SUNY-mandated, therefore, it cannot be waived. 

The UHC Study Abroad Insurance is ACA compliant and students may waive the FIT Haylor Student Health Insurance using the Study Abroad policy.
