Break and Recess Housing
Outlined here are operational and service changes, hall closures, and application requirements during the academic breaks. Find out when and how students can remain on campus if needed, and what services are (or are not) available during those periods.
Break Periods and Recess Periods
Break and recess periods indicate a change in Residential Life operations:
- Break periods: residence halls remain open, but may have modified levels of student support
- Recess periods: residence halls are closed to all students

Emergency Housing Options
FIT provides limited emergency housing options for students facing housing insecurity, or other hardships. Generally emergency housing is not available during recess periods. If you require more information about this, please contact the Dean of Student's Office.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, you may leave items in your room between the fall and spring semesters, but remember to take home anything you will need while the residence halls are closed, such as medication.
Some students may also leave items between the end of summer and beginning of fall on a limited and pre-approved basis.
